Patricia A. Alexander, Ph.D., is a Distinguished University Professor, the Jean Mullan Professor of Literacy and a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology, University of Maryland. A member of the National Academy of Education, Dr. Alexander has authored over 340 publications and delivered over 100 keynote addresses on the subject of learning and teaching. She is also the recipient of numerous awards for her research and her teaching.
Jason DeGiovanni, M.D., is a 4th year resident at the University at Buffalo-State University of New York. Dr. DeGiovanni is applying for fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fall, 2022. Dr. DeGiovanni enjoys exercise, golf and outdoor adventures.
Jackie Gartner-Schmidt, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA-Fellow, is Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Carlow University. Prior to her academic appointment, for near 20 years, she was co-director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Voice Center and director of Speech-Language Pathology-Voice Division. Dr. Gartner-Schmidt’s 25-year clinical and research focus specializes on the assessment and treatment of patients with voice and upper airway disorders. She has authored numerous publications and book chapters and frequently presents nationally and internationally, as well as having presented a TEDxTalk ® on voice and perception. Since 2013, Dr. Gartner-Schmidt has also owned Voice Now, LLC dedicated to training speakers to develop, design, and deliver presentations more effectively.
Noel Jabbour, MD, M.Ss, F.A.C.S., is Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is the Program Director for the Otolaryngology residency program at UPMC Pittsburgh. He serves as the Otolaryngology representative on the Cleft-Craniofacial team and is the director of the Congenital Ear Center at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Jabbour holds a Master’s of Science in Medical Education. He is passionate about improving the process of training surgeons within and beyond the traditional classroom of the operating room. He holds multiple patents for surgical simulators. Dr. Jabbour has served on various national committees, including as an item writer for the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, a course director for the ASPO Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Boot camp, and as a member of the Simulation Committee and the 3D Printed Temporal Bone Task force for the AAO-HNS.
Brian Pettitt-Schieber, M.D., is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery resident at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. He graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 2021 where he authored two publications with the Department of Otolaryngology and held a leadership role in the development of virtual surgical curriculae for third-year students as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his free time, Brian enjoys hiking in upstate NY, exploring in New York City, and relaxing at home with friends.
Manick Saran, D.O., is a third-year resident in the ENT Head and Neck Surgery residency program at UPMC Hamot in Erie PA. He has authored several articles in the literature regarding multiple aspects of the field of ENT. Dr. Saran thoroughly enjoys teaching medical students and fellow residents at every opportunity.
Mattie Rosi-Schumacher, M.D., is a resident in the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. She has authored numerous publications and presented her research at conferences both locally and nationally. Dr. Rosi-Schumacher is passionate about contributing to the future of the field of Otolaryngology through original research and involvement in professional societies. She is especially interested in the fields of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Rhinology. Dr. Rosi-Schumacher is dedicated to the pursuit of lifelong learning and education and hopes to continue her work in an academic institution in the future.
Andrew Steehler, M.D., is an otolaryngology resident at UPMC Hamot. Dr. Steehler graduated from Emory University School of Medicine before returning to his hometown of Erie, PA for residency training. Dr. Steehler has authored multiple articles in medical education, otolaryngology, and rhinology. Most recently, Dr. Steehler gave an oral presentation for his accepted work at the 2021 Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings virtual conference. Dr. Steehler is passionate about healthy living and demonstrates commitment to his community and otolaryngology research.
Stephanie M. Williams, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at Pennsylvania Western University at Edinboro and serves as a faculty member and Field Services & Partnerships Coordinator for the College of Education. Dr. Williams is the author of many articles on student success and has dedicated her career to education with experience as a teacher, department chair, principal, office administration, and university professor. Throughout her career, Dr. Williams earned numerous grants and awards, including the 2012 Pennsylvania Secondary Principal of the Year. Dr. Williams prides herself on her servant leadership approach to learning and educating.
Yael Wollstein, B.S., is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and her post-baccalaureate premedical certificate from Goucher College.
John F. Ziegler, D.Ed., is a Professor in the Educational Leadership & School Psychology Department at Pennsylvania Western University. Dr. Ziegler has held numerous positions from teacher to counselor to building and district level school administrator and now teaches graduate courses specifically designed for candidates seeking educational leadership certification. Dr. Ziegler’s progressive years of experience in public education define a professional career that serves students and colleagues with distinction. His educational role characterizes a facilitator, a motivator, and a resource who can move individuals from their comfort zones to higher levels of academic and personal growth.
Madeline Krentz Gober, PhD is a professional medical communicator and the Owner and Principal Medical Writer of VeritaSci Consulting, LLC. Dr Gober believes that advances in science, medicine, and technology are most impactful when they are communicated effectively by those with direct experience with the science in the field. Dr Gober also has an extensive background in education and teaching methodologies from her experiences prior to consulting.
E. Berryhill McCarty, MD, MA is a PGY2 at UPMC's Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program. Her academic interests include narrative medicine, history of medicine and medical education, and how patient subjective experience impacts clinical outcomes. She is always looking for ways to improve the effectiveness of medical education, especially at the residency level.
