Abstract
The Tactile Speech Indicator is an adaptive telephone aid that is useful for deaf-blind clients with a speaking voice. Successful use of the device leading to more effective communication was influenced by such factors as having a prepared introductory speech, sequenced questions containing one variable, the voice and manner of delivery of the deaf-blind user, and the familiarity of the person being called. This article suggests teaching techniques and gives an example of placing a call.
