Abstract
A survey of the participation of minority students in university programs that offer certification and degrees in education of the visually impaired found that, in the 19 programs that responded, most teachers who were trained from 1966 to 1983 were white and female. It also found that the annual participation rate of minority students was fairly constant and at a low level during that period—about 7.5%. The results point to the need for expanding the data base on personnel preparation in the field.
