Abstract
Describes a pilot project in Indonesia to counsel parents of potential and actual visually impaired children. Volunteer community residents, in conjunction with social workers and medical personnel, counsel parents on the problems of visual impairment and the need for adequate nutrition and health care. They also referr children to health care services and schools for the visually handicapped. An added benefit is that attitudes of community residents toward blindness and its prevention changed significantly.
