Abstract
This article describes the founding and first years of the Centro de Crecimiento, a school for exceptional children in a Mexican town where no special education facilities existed before. The students range in age from 5 to 18; and have various disabilities, including blindness, deafness, cerebral palsy, and emotional problems. The school, which is privately funded, attempts to teach skills that will help the children become integrated into the life of the community.
