Abstract
This article describes a model, developed by the authors, for conceptualizing the psychology of adjustment to visual loss. The aim of the model is to establish definitions and guidelines within which techniques for working with the blind may be used. Four conditions necessary for adjustment to blindness are delineated, as are two categories of maladjustment and their subtypes. The role of the psychologist in facilitating adjustment is then discussed.
