Abstract
This study was done with a 25-year-old institutionalized deaf-blind student who exhibited self-abusive behaviors. When given six manual commands, the student was to carry out each command within 10 seconds from the time given. The initial treatment procedure involved continuous reinforcement consisting of pats on the back and raisins. During the second intervention stage, the edible reinforcement was thinned and the desired behavior was maintained at the criteria level of 80%. Twenty-five sessions were administered. Three sessions involved generalizing the commands to staff working on the student's living unit. Three post-checks indicated that the student's new behavior was generalized to his new living area.
