Abstract
Orientation and mobility for the blind is a professional teaching area within the field of special education. Competitive vocational placement is the expressed goal of vocational rehabilitation programs for the blind. A combination of these two roles is an innovative and pragmatic concept developed and currently used by the Vocational Rehabilitation Field Services Program within the Virginia Commission for the Visually Handicapped. A case study is given of how this combination was used in practice.
