Abstract
Although it is suspected that there are approximately 530 deaf-blind children in Canada, a questionnaire survey revealed that only 66 such children have been identified. Of these, 44 have received full diagnostic assessments. It is suspected that a large number of deaf-blind children have been placed in institutions for the mentally retarded. There are only two schools in Canada offering services for these children. There is no program for training teachers of the deaf-blind. A number of recommendations for improving services for deaf-blind children in Canada are made.
