Abstract
This analysis of trends in fund-raising includes the following topics: the general economy, the patterns of federal funding and private philanthropy in recent years, the recipients of contributions, financial reporting, state laws, the role of lay volunteers and professional fund-raisers, the costs, the training of fund-raisers, tax exemptions for gifts, and the current picture in work for the blind. The author concludes that fund-raising must be revolutionized if the money needed for the important work still left undone is to be forthcoming.
