Abstract
After felicitous remarks about the occasion, Dr. Farrell stated that the Ivory Tower in the title of the address did not refer to the tower which dominates Perkins Institution, but to the use of that term by a French Saint over a hundred years ago to designate a sense of detachment or withdrawal from the melee of life to a more serene place for observation and reflection.
