Introduction: Research surrounding teacher self-efficacy currently focuses on general education and certain types of special education teachers, without specific consideration for teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired (TVIs). In this literature review, the authors review current research on teacher self-efficacy and explore the factors influencing teachers, resulting outcomes, and common measurement scales. The authors consider whether TVIs should be included in future research and whether their roles and responsibilities are specific enough to differentiate self-efficacy influences, factors, and measurements from other teachers. Methods: Online databases were used to search for articles on TVIs, general education, and special education teacher self-efficacy from 2001 to 2024. Twenty-one articles met the criteria for inclusion. Results: Teacher self-efficacy is a critical component of teacher confidence and performance. Various studies using different adaptations of the most common teacher self-efficacy scale have linked several internal and external factors that influence teachers throughout their careers. Such factors have been found to contribute to positive and negative outcomes for teachers and students. Results indicate that teacher self-efficacy factors influence teacher performance, student outcomes, and teacher retention. Despite similarities between TVIs and other teachers, differences in roles and preparation may affect the types of factors that influence TVI self-efficacy. Discussion: Research supports the influence of teacher self-efficacy and current measurement practices as useful information on teacher needs and concerns. The consideration and research of TVI self-efficacy could prove to be a useful guide for understanding and improving the field of vision impairments. Implications for Practitioners: Future research should look to determine the influence of TVI self-efficacy and explore internal and external factors that influence TVIs. This information could aid in developing a measurement scale that directly reflects the roles and responsibilities of TVIs.
