Abstract
The petroleum industry has achieved major improvements in recent years in finding, developing and producing oil and gas. These improvements have been through advances in all facets of technology including computer and workstation technologies as well as horizontal drilling. Oryx Energy has aggressively applied these new techniques to improve its competitive edge. The company uses the Unix workstation systems which allow simultaneous multiple processing and improved performance and graphics. The company's Amdahl mainframe is the hub of a worldwide network of business and scientific computers. These computers use advanced geoscience and engineering software. For example, geoscience software allows sophisticated analysis and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data.
Oryx Energy's worldwide network also allows different specialist teams of engineers, geologists and geophysicists in different locations to provide more effective, integrated evaluations of data resulting in increased success rates.
