Abstract
A monitoring program and network of stations was established to assess the environmental consequences of the hydroelectric developments on the La Grande Rivière to: Collect data for environmental management, for better forecasting of impact of future projects and to monitor changes affecting native communities. The results of monitoring activities were reviewed by an advisory panel of experts. Observations were made on fish populations, mercury levels, estuaries, wildfowl and the Cree communities. Studies such as these, conducted over the last 20 years, have contributed to establishing analytical methods and enhancement measures that are the basis of practices.
