Abstract
By the year 2010 demand for natural gas is expected to have grown from 230 Bcm/year to 400 Bcm under the impetus of use for electrical generation, the need for a cleaner fuel and environmental clean-up in eastern Europe. Norway's exports of natural gas to Europe, largely from fields currently under development, is expected to grow from a 1990 level of 26.5 Bcm to 47 Bcm by 2005. Additional commitment of 15 to 20 Bcm/year might be possible, for an extra investment approaching US$15 billion, to meet the expected European demand. There are plans for the Northern Norway LNG Project to serve the Italian and North American markets.
