Abstract
With the exception of the oil shale mined in Estonia, the three Baltic Republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have been heavily dependent on energy supplies from the USSR. The energy sectors of the Baltic States are described and indications are given of possible developments. However a prime objective for each of the Republics is to collect and collate their national energy supply and consumption statistics which are at present totally inadequate.
The way in which the energy sectors develop will be very dependent on political stability in East Europe and on financial and technical help from West Europe.
