East China is the most developed area in China, but has scant energy resources. An SD model of coal exploitation was created to demonstrate the operational mechanism of the coal industrial system and the prospects of the coal industry of the East China Region, which includes: (a) the relations of coal supply and demand; (b) the early warning of coal industry; (c) the dynamic effects of policies on coal production; and (d) the rational exploitation of coal resources.
