Abstract
China is one of the earliest countries to discover and use oil and natural gas. Even so, the growth of the oil industry was quite slow before the foundation of the People's Republic of China. Since 1949, China's oil industry has developed fast, especially during the period from 1970 to 1980. The geological reserves of oil are relatively abundant in China.
The refinery industry takes most of the crude oil. With price as a lever the refinery industry has developed rapidly. The transportation sector is the big user of oil products.
As energy demand will be bigger than energy supply in the coming years and coal will play a dominant role in total energy consumption the share for oil will be less than 20% in future.
