Developments in raw materials production and in oil-production technology required new methods of long-term planning for oil-production levels, and such methods have been created.
An analysis carried out by the Octopus simulator has revealed that economically it is expedient to cut production levels after 1995-2000.
For the foreseeable future, Western Siberia will remain the major oil producer in the USSR.
