Abstract
The New Zealand Synthetic Fuels Corporation Limited (Synfuel) began operation of its Gas to Gasoline plant in October 1985. The Plant has since successfully demonstrated the technology and engineering upon which the project was based.
The process by which natural gas is first synthesised to methanol and then subsequently convened to a premium gasoline blend stock is outlined. Operational history since startup is described with particular emphasis on natural gas quality and its effect both operationally and commercially on the Synfuel Plant.
Future options for optimisation of the Plant's feedstock are discussed.
