Abstract
The performance and payback period of a partial ice-storage (PIS) air conditioning system in Hong Kong are investigated in this paper. The results between different operating modes are compared. It is concluded that it is very difficult for local investors of PIS air conditioning systems to recover their capital investment under the current power supply tariff arrangement. If the off-peak electricity price is reduced to HK$0.30-0.35, the payback period could be about 5-6 years.
