Abstract
Nowadays, non-linear electrical loads are commonly found in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. These loads draw a distorted current from the supply system and thus cause harmonic distortion. In this paper, various harmonic generating loads in high-rise commercial buidings are identified and their harmful effects are analysed. Site measurements on harmonic currents were taken and associated problems were studied. Guidelines on the minimisation of harmonics and their associated effects in distribution systems in buildings are given.
