Abstract
The areas used in building heat loss calculations are normally the plane areas calculated from the internal dimensions of each room. This excludes the areas of external walls, floor and ceiling which are covered by internal floors and walls, and also the effects of edges and corners. Some simple theory and infra-red experimental work suggests that together these would add around 15 per cent to the heat losses normally calculated for the walls, floor and roof, i.e. excluding the losses through windows and doors and by ventilation.
