An air-water heat pump has been used to heat a well insulated experimental house since 1978. This paper describes the monitored performance of the heat pump and examines in detail its behaviour under part load operation and in frosting conditions. The seasonal coefficient of performance for space and water heating was 2.3 with minimal use of supplementary heat.
