Abstract
An experimental model building was constructed in Khartoum to examine the thermal performance of traditional and current forms of roof construction. Thermistor sensors and chart recorders were used to record the hourly surface temperatures of the roofs and the internal air temperatures of the individual rooms of the model. During the experiment the effect of the roof surface finished and the ventilation of the rooms and the roof/ceiling air space were also examined. According to the results and the capital cost, suitable forms of roof construction and methods for their improvements were recommended.
