This paper is concerned with the heating effect on buildings of solar radiation through windows. The theory and equations which lead to an hour-by-hour prediction of the solar gains and cooling loads are documented. These provide the algorithms for computer programs which derive solar cooling loads directly from basic data and for programs which produce solar gain factors used for manual calculations.
