Abstract
The effects of the various modes of heating of the sensing element of a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) are considered, and an attempt made to quantify them. In addition, the effects of solar energy suddenly becoming available to the sensing element surface are also discussed and possible temperature changes at the element surface postulated. The problem has been confined to a study of equilibrium effects. No attempt has been made to solve the transient problems imposed by system changes.
