This Note reports an audit of water consumption in 17 hotels in Hong Kong, based on water consumption data for 1995. An averaged water use index (WUI) based on unit floor area for the 17 hotels has been derived. A number of factors potentially affeeting the WUI values for hotels have been examined. The difficulties in assessing water consumption in hotel buildings are discussed and a method for properly assessing water use performance in hotel buildings is proposed.
