Abstract
Many studies have revealed that females tend to avoid circumstances that are likely to produce success, and that they are not as highly oriented towards achievement as are males (Horner, 1972). However, many young women are now believed to be moving out of the 'traditional' stereotyped roles for females; such females may not be plagued by fear of success. This study was designed to elucidate the difference in achievement orientation among girls who may have a 'non-traditional' perception of theories of women, compared to those who may be 'traditional' in their perception of women's roles. The research study conducted in Nigeria revealed that there was no difference in the achievement orientation for girls in these two groups.
