Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide data regarding the incidence of behaviour problems among a sample of adolescents in a specific representative area of Algeria (Hussein Dey) and their association with factors such as age, gender, type of school, linguistic orientation. The main value of this paper lies in its clarification of the nature and extent of behaviour problems among a sample of adolescents in Algiers, the development evaluation of the pupils' behaviour scales rating by themselves and analysis of the related factors. A description of the pupils' adjustment scale is provided with a brief explanation of the development of the instrument. Evidence concerning validity and reliability is reported in addition to a Varimax rotational factor analysis. The questionnaire was found to provide a reasonable diagnostic appraisal and proved to be valid and reliable as an instrument for assessing pupils' self rated adjustment.
