Abstract
This paper describes one aspect of school psychologists' training carried out at Exeter University, England. The emphasis here is upon preventive and consultative work, particularly geared towards empowering primary care givers and demystifying the 'expert' label carried by psychologists. Reference is made to various projects carried out by Exeter trainees within the context of the Devon Psychological Service, which has both welcomed and fostered close liaison between trainees and experienced practitioners. A structure for maintaining and developing change as a result of such training projects with teachers and parents is also made explicit.
