This paper describes the school psychological system in the Federal Republic of Germany. Main tasks and their relative importance within the services are reported on the basis of a nationwide survey. University psychology training in Germany is not specific to the demands of the school psychologist's work. In general, an additional examination and practice as a teacher are required. There has recently been an attempt to develop a psychology course with special regard to the schools.
