Abstract
School psychologists have been trained in France since 1945. About 2300 of them now work in elementary schools and preschools. Despite professional action, they remain underqualified in comparison with other psychologists. This paper describes the academic and vocational programmes of two (of the five) School Psychology Training Centres in France: the smallest one, in Besancon, and the largest one, in Paris. Future orientations which are supported by professional organizations are suggested. These imply a need for change in initial and inservice training.
