Following the referral of a boy from an infant school to the local Child Guidance Centre on the grounds that he was possibly in need of a place at a special school for the educational subnormal (mild) (ESN/(M)), a simple experimental project was started at the infant school to teach reading intensively to this boy and to several others who were nearly as backward.
