The current concerns for increasing administrator effectiveness, particularly in the ‘loosely coupled’ condition characteristic of public schools, is the fundamental emphasis of this study. Major findings support the proposition that significant linear and curvilinear relationships exist between a principal's level of Machiavellianism and his or her perceived effectiveness as a school leader.
