Abstract
The Rhode Island Pupil Identification Scale (RIPIS) is a pupil observation scale used by classroom teachers for the early identification of young children with learning problems. The rationale underlying its design and development are discussed as are its psychometric properties and factorial structure. Refe rence is made to a number of foreign language forms and cross-cultural re search currently underway designed for its adoption to and adoption in a variety of cultures internationally. Proposals are suggested as to how classroom teachers and school specialists, especially school psychologists, may success fully combine their efforts in identifying children with learning problems.
