Abstract
It is often claimed that fuzzy logic controllers are robust. This work contains a comparison of a PD-like fuzzy logic controller and a classical PD-controller applied to a vertical take off and landing (VTOL) laboratory scaled plane model in simulation studies and real-time control with regard to robustness against stochastic disturbances and parameter variations. An analytical description of the fuzzy controller is derived and compared with the PD-controller. The results show that a fuzzy controller is a priori not more robust against noisy disturbances than a conventional controller.
