Abstract
First, changes in the instrument engineering industry are considered, together with the resulting changes of manpower requirements. Then progress in areas of education and training are considered, with particular attention to training in industry, the universities and polytechnics and finally schools. In conclusion, the importance of stronger links between the providers of education and industry are stressed.
