Abstract

The paper presents an analytical view of the education and training of engineers and scientists in measurement and instrumentation in relation to metrology, It discusses the process of formation and the way in which metrologisis are formed. It emphasises the role of applied physics and of measurement and instrumentation technology in their formation. It discusses the nature and scope of the latter as a teachable discipline.
