Four methods of designing a digital compensator for a simple plant are examined and the dynamic performance of each is compared with that of an analogue phase advance network. The comparison is made in terms of closed-loop, step and frequency responses and steady-state error, and significant conclusions are drawn about the merits of the design methods.
