Abstract
The systematic errors that occur during furnace tube temperature measurements with pyrometers can be very large indeed. The feasibility of using a correction technique to compensate for these systematic measurement errors is evaluated. It is concluded that it is not possible to realise this objective in practice. However, a qualitative assessment of the magnitude of these systematic measurement errors can be made by means of a simple mathematical model; the model is described.
