Abstract
The use of a 'Design Region' instead of a 'Design Curve' is shown to provide the designer with a greater freedom of choice and results in the design of compensators which give faster transients than would be obtained by use of the design curve. For some systems the use of a design region will show that the chosen type of compensator will satisfy design requirements; whereas the use of a design curve would suggest that the chosen type of compensator would fail to satisfy the design requirements.
