Abstract
This article investigates a series of commentaries known as the Indian Church Commentaries, produced during the imperial period in India, and demonstrates how myths of race, nationality and English superiority were integral to the commentarial strategies, and how the commentators' allegiance to the imperial cause informed their biblical expostion.
