Abstract
This article focuses on the persuasive function of language in the letter of Jude. The literary and rhetorical approaches provide the methodological paradigm that furnishes a basic framework of presuppositions within which this short New Testament docu ment is approached. After a brief discussion of the context-determined functions of persuasive discourse in general, Jude's socio-cultural context is constructed. Within this framework the rhetorical situation of the letter is then investigated.
