Abstract
This essay surveys the establishment of apocalyptic as a topic in Brazilian scholarship, first through the translation of key Western scholarly works and more recently in commentaries, journals and essays written in Brazil or Latin America. It concludes by asking why apocalyptic has not attracted greater interest among Brazilian scholars, considering the significance of millenarian tendencies in popular religion in Brazil.
