Abstract
In his recent Theology of Paul the Apostle, J.D.G. Dunn argues that 'Jewish monotheism' remains foundational for Paul, despite the addition of secondary christological convictions to his inherited Jewish beliefs. In opposition to this, it is argued that, without detriment to its Jewish roots, Paul's view of God is fully and distinctively Christian. For Paul, the word 'God' means 'the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ', 'the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead'. Paul is con cerned with no other god than the one whose very being is constituted by the rela tionship to Jesus and his Spirit.
