Abstract
After medical school at Oxford and St Bartholomew's Hospital, Sir Christopher Paine was Consultant in Radiotherapy and Oncology at Oxford from 1970–1995. From 1982–1985 he was Director of Clinical Studies of the Oxford University Medical School and District General Manager of Oxfordshire Health Authority from 1984–1988. Sir Christopher was then President of The Royal College of Radiologist from 1992–1995, and Vice Chairman of the Conference of Medical Royal Colleges for the year 1994/1995. From July 1996 until July 1998 he was the President of The Royal Society of Medicine. His present post is Medical Director of the Advisory Committee on Distinction Awards. In 1995, he was knighted in the New Year Honours.
