Abstract

David Jeffrey's timely paper 1 will strike a chord with many of us who may have failed the ‘kindness' test some time during our career. The mitigating circumstances could have been fatigue and/or time pressure, but our only solace is we probably remembered our shortcomings in retrospect resolving to do better in the future.
Kindness is an innate ability but perhaps a difficult one to assess.
If it is quantifiable, might it not be a factor as important as ‘A' level grade perfection in the medical student selection process?
And might it be relevant also to the selection of other healthcare professionals?
