Kamran Abbasi, in his most recent Editorial,1 postulates that the government is either responding pragmatically to a crisis of service delivery or implementing a grand design to dismantle the NHS. Bearing in mind the fate of the post office, I would incline to the latter conclusion.
First appoint an abrasive chief, then alienate the staff. When the service deteriorates, there is an excellent excuse for privatisation. Splendid for the government's friends in big business but disaster for the unfortunate service users.
