Abstract
International migration from Nepal was mostly to India, but from the 1990s, Nepalis seeking overseas jobs sought other destinations. The census is the main source of data on international migration; questions on international migration have been collected since the 1961 census. Other sources of international migration data come from the Nepal Living Standards Survey and data on overseas migration collected by the Nepal Ministry of Labor and Transport Management. The Nepal Ministry of Finance releases data on estimates of remittances. Better coordination among the government institutions involved in international migration will improve the collection and dissemination of international migration data.
